RPG players nowadays aren’t satisfied with the old formula of gacha pulls, auto-battling, and watching damage numbers pop up. Some game developers have packed console-level open-world RPGs into your mobile device, allowing you to experience them anytime and anywhere. Some games even bring social elements into the RPG experience, making the game no longer just a story for one person.

As more RPGs enter the market, there are also many pay-to-win traps mixed in though. We’ve teamed up with APKPure to look at five of the very best RPGs worth checking out on your smartphone.

Genshin Impact

If you enjoy open-world RPGs, you’re probably already familiar with Genshin Impact. It remains one of the most influential mobile RPGs to date.

Genshin Impact is gearing up for its upcoming “Luna VII” update which will introduce two familiar characters into the playable lineup, becoming new five-star characters. One is Nicole Reeyn, a member of the Hexenzirkel known by the codename “N”, and the other is Lohen, the deputy captain of the fifth squad of the Knights of Favonius.

Although Genshin Impact is a mobile game it is recommended that you experience it on a computer for the best visual quality though – especially if your phone’s configuration is not sufficient, the performance may suffer. If you’re using an emulator on PC, you can download APKs from third-party stores like APKPure.

Honkai: Star Rail

If you really love turn-based games, then Honkai: Star Rail is an essential download too. To celebrate its third anniversary, the game introduced a Version 4.2 event with generous rewards as well.

Of course, in this version, two brand-new five-star characters: Silver Wolf LV.999 and Fei Ying, will officially join the team and become important players in the pioneers’ efforts to turn the tide of the battle. Besides the new characters, the Trailblazer of the Elation Path will also join the team in the 4.2 version.

As a welcome gesture, the official came up with a clever idea – a new weapon: the Glow Stick. This Glow Stick not only has its literal function but can also be used as a weapon. When the skill is released, the Glow Stick will transform into a flash of sword light, and the Trailblazer deals damage to all enemies. Moreover, the Glow Stick can also transform into a nunchaku, launching a series of spectacular attacks on surrounding enemies, causing multiple damages.

Wuthering Waves

Developer Kuro Games demonstrated with Wuthering Waves that it is indeed possible to create such spectacular combos on mobile devices as those seen in Devil May Cry.

Wuthering Waves features an excellent combat system, fully leveraging the unique Resonator mechanism of this genre of games. Its storyline is also captivating, unfolding gradually as the game progresses, filled with various memorable moments. Moreover, the game boasts a vast open world, allowing players to explore freely.

It can also be downloaded on Steam, meaning it can also be played on a PC. However, if you still prefer to use an APK emulator to play it, as mentioned above, you can go to a third-party store like APKPure to find the APK package for download and then experience it.

Albion Online

Albion is a return to that old-school MMO feeling of experiencing pain and joy in equal measure. There are no professions; you wear whatever you have on. When you die, your equipment drops for real, so every time you venture into the Black Zone, it’s a nail-biting experience.

All skills are bound to the equipment, which means you can switch your gameplay at any time. There is no fixed character selection, and there is no such thing as a “ruined build”.

The rules of this world are harsh, but they are also inarguably fair. Every penny of your wealth is earned and created by yourself. The feeling of losing is extremely painful, but at the same time, the joy of regaining it is also extremely profound. Players who enjoy the hardcore economic system and high-risk high-reward gameplay of EVE are likely to like this place very much.

Reverse: 1999

Arguably one of the best presented RPGs on this list, with excellent English voice acting featuring a range of authentic accents from London to Scottish.

The different characters’ speech patterns allow you to sense their origins and backgrounds. The plot revolves around “The Storm”, and every once in a while it takes the world back to a previous time. You need to navigate through the chaotic time periods to search for the truth. This concept sounds rather mysterious, but once you immerse yourself in it, you’ll find that its storytelling method is very unique, like flipping through a moving mystery novel.

The combat system is also unconventional. It’s not the kind of game where you just automatically use powerful cards and nothing else happens. Instead, it uses a card fusion mechanism. In each round, you randomly draw the skill cards of the characters. The same cards can be dragged together to form more advanced versions, gradually upgrading from a small skill to a big attack.

This means that in each round, you need to make the right decisions: should you use it now or hold it back for synthesis? The pace is not fast, but every step requires you to think. However there’s a small catch in that the game also contains a large amount of text-based storylines. This means you need to carefully appreciate every line of dialogue within it.

So be sure to bookmark these RPGs if any catch your interest. If you’re still looking for more RPG games, you can also pay attention to some game rankings or search for them in third-party app stores like APKPure. They will categorize the games specifically to help players better focus on the categories they want to play, as well as the latest and even the games in the testing period.
