Vampirio is Outfit7’s new rogue-like action RPG built around one rule: build by day, survive the night. Gather resources and strengthen your fortress during daylight, then take control of a hero to defend it against waves of monsters after dark. Different heroes, randomized upgrades, and permanent progression give you new ways to approach each battle.

The ghoulies and ghosties of Vampirio don’t take any prisoners. When the sun sets, you’ve got to fend off an onslaught of monsters, through planning, building, and good, old fashioned stabbing…

If you find the forces of darkness are winning more often than not, though, we’ve put together a Vampirio tips and tricks guide to help you see the sun rise again.

Make The Most Of Daylight Hours

Proper preparation prevents poor performance. While nighttime is where the combat happens, sleeping on the daytime phase will come back to haunt you. (A lot like some of the enemies.)

Use the time wisely and try to figure out where your defenses weren’t up to scratch the night before. If enemies got through somewhere, reinforce it. Avoid just randomly hitting upgrade buttons and hoping for the best.

Play Favourites (With Your Defenses)

You don’t need to upgrade everything equally. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. You should focus your resources on things that aren’t keeping up and where defences failed the night before.

Make The Most Of Your Hero

You’re playing a rogue-like combat title and a defense game at once, and you should be thinking of both. While you can just start swinging with your hero, they’re a great way to shore up weaknesses in your fortress by forming a bulwark against the horde.

Don’t Be Too Cautious

Staying alive matters, but so does staying involved in the fight. During battles, your hero levels up, gains skills, and develops a build for that run.

Keep moving, look for opportunities to clear enemies, and support the parts of your fortress under pressure. The aim is to stay effective without taking unnecessary risks.

Make The Most Of What You’ve Got

You won’t always get the upgrade you were hoping for. Rather than waiting for the perfect build, work with the options available.

Look at the skills you already have. Can your next choice strengthen something that’s working, cover a weakness, or help with the enemies giving you trouble? A different build can be an opportunity to try a new approach.

Don’t Just Push For Big Numbers

More damage can help, but first ask what’s putting your run at risk. If enemies are overwhelming your defenses, offensive power may be the answer. If you’re struggling to stay alive, another damage upgrade might not solve the problem.

Choose upgrades that address the threat you’re facing, rather than automatically picking the biggest number.

Don’t Neglect Your Fortress

Similar to the problem of being passive earlier, don’t be too aggressive either. While it’s easy to get caught up in the combat aspect, a hero isn’t enough on their own. If you let your defenses fall apart while you’re running around smiting things that’s eventually going to catch up with you.

Learn The Basics With Alba

Alba is the first hero you’ll play and is designed to help you learn Vampirio’s core systems. Use those early battles to get comfortable with movement, skills, and fortress defense.

As you unlock other heroes, including Vlad, Lucian, and Morana, experiment with their different abilities and combat styles. An approach that works with Alba may need rethinking with someone else, so take time to find the heroes that suit your playstyle.

Adapt Or Die

Sometimes you will need to switch gears on the fly, especially where bosses are concerned. These powerful enemies have their own moves and skills, and you might need to mix up how you handle them rather than trying to brute force your way through the encounter.

And Remember: There’s Always The Next Run

One unsuccessful run isn’t the whole game. Vampirio combines skill choices and leveling within individual runs with longer-term progression through heroes, gear, and permanent upgrades.

Take a moment to consider what worked and what caught you out. Review your available upgrades, rethink your approach, and put what you’ve learned into the next attempt.

Use these strategies for yourself now with Vampirio availanle on Google Play, the App Store, or on Steam. Find out which hero you are via the personality quiz on the game’s official site here too!
