Artist and solo game developer Tanya Kozak has announced her debut title, We Don’t Exist. Based in Philadelphia, USA, she’s also a content creator on YouTube under the name Versiris, where she mostly shares content about game development and art.
We Don’t Exist is a story-driven adventure game set in a parallel universe where all the creatures people swear they’ve seen actually exist. Turns out plenty of supposedly fictional creatures have been getting on with their lives in another dimension this whole time.
The story kicks off when the protagonist goes searching for the elusive Bigfoot and ends up discovering a secret parallel dimension. It’s inhabited by cryptids, UFOs, and all sorts of paranormal phenomena. But both dimensions are facing trouble, with someone running a dark interdimensional conspiracy.
You can actually take on multiple roles in We Don’t Exist
Including famous cryptids like Mothman and the Jersey Devil. Each has their own character arc, and their stories connect with one another as the bigger narrative unfolds. You’ll also get to interact with them as your own customizable character. The game has dynamic dialogue choices.
We Don’t Exist lets you freely wander around different areas of the cryptid world while working through the main story. Chat with locals and pick up optional side stories along the way. You’ll also gather data on the strange creatures you encounter. Trading goods, favours, and even secrets can get you useful information or unique items to help with your adventure.
The game has a whole cast of hand-drawn, voice-acted personalities. As for the visuals, the combination of hand-drawn 2D characters and 3D environments looks really lovely. It’s vibrant, charming and definitely interesting. Take a look at the latest trailer for We Don’t Exist.
We Don’t Exist is currently in development for PC and is available to wishlist through Steam.
