Painted Realms is an upcoming cosy, creative VR adventure game designed for Meta Quest 3S, 3 and 2. It’s developed by Wondie Games, with support from Creative Europe Media and the CNC. The demo for Painted Realms is out now, letting you interact with the magical world for free.
True to its name, the title brings a surrealistic presentation. The premise is inside a magical museum where paintings are actual portals to living worlds. You step into the Coquelicot Museum and play as an art restorer whose job is to fix damaged paintings.
In the meantime, you also deal with a mysterious Eraser Artist who is responsible for things disappearing from the painted worlds. You can also spend time just experimenting with the creative tools instead of following the main quest if you feel like it.
Painted Realms also offers creative quests where you use your brush to help inhabitants of the painted realms. And there’s a sandbox system where you can decorate and customise the museum. Meanwhile, a magical brush can turn 2D drawings into 3D objects. You can create decorations and objects just by drawing them with the brush.
The game makes you feel like you’re not just looking at art but actually existing inside it. Everything looks like a living painting with visible brushstrokes, oil and watercolour textures, soft edges, and blended shapes. Take a look at it below.
Get your hands on the Painted Realms demo
The Painted Realms demo is around 10 minutes long. It includes the first museum gallery with paintings inspired by Vincent van Gogh and Mary Cassatt, plus the first creative side quest. Head over to the Meta Store to try the demo out. The game will also be available on Steam soon.
The devs are planning to add a multiplayer social mode to the full game. With that, players can invite friends into their museum, show their art, paint together, and share creations. The full game will also add more creative tools like fancier brushes, a colour swap gun, and a magic drawing machine.
Not into paintings? Then try the Demo for Night-Fishing Horror Title, Out Fishing.
