Apparently, there’s a job opening in Hell now. And it isn’t anything evil, though; it just involves sorting mail in Modesto, California. The Mailroom, a cosy-horror workplace simulator from indie developer Crowfriend and publisher Vendetta, is out now for PC.

Are regular office jobs not soul-crushing enough?

It’s a small regional office of Hell located in Modesto. First, you need to clock in and do your job. Take the elevator down into the depths of Hell, punch your time card, and get ready to spend your shift sorting infernal post for your dark overlords.

Time behaves strangely in this miserable little realm, but the workplace routine remains painfully familiar. You’re not just mindlessly chucking envelopes into piles all day. You need to inspect each letter, pick up on clues, recognise patterns, and figure out which floor it belongs on before sending it to the appropriate overlords.

Some of the incoming post is junk or otherwise unwanted, so you’ll have to decide what deserves delivery. Every little slip-up gets noticed, and the game keeps introducing new challenges and mechanics as the days go by. The devil really is in the details!

Then there’s the machine maintenance. You need to keep the equipment running with magical artefacts, ancient tools, and occult rituals. The machinery needs regular attention, and letting things fall into disrepair can have some genuinely nasty consequences.

The mail can’t stop flowing in The Mailroom

There are also some rather questionable responsibilities on your daily to-do list in The Mailroom. Along with sorting mail, inspecting suspicious letters, processing occult specimens, and maintaining the machinery, you’ll be burning mail, bills, and collectors.

Your access to the surrounding area gradually expands as you progress. Somewhere within those blood-ridden walls, there might even be a way out. The question is whether you’ll actually find it before you’re trapped there for eternity.

The Mailroom is now out on Steam, and there’s a free demo available if you fancy testing the waters before committing to eternal employment.
