Dark Palace Interactive is bringing its upcoming first-person psychological horror game to Steam Scream V. Called Inherited, the game now has a free playable demo launching on Steam, right as Steam’s annual horror game celebration gets underway.

The Steam Scream V event runs until November 2nd, so there’s a whole week to get acquainted with the nightmare. The game’s premise follows a person who wakes up inside an isolated house after a mysterious accident. He gradually discovers the disturbing cycle linking the property to its previous inhabitants. Exploration, environmental storytelling, puzzles, psychological uncertainty, and unpredictable encounters are what make up the game.

Objects, sounds, lighting, documents, recordings, and other environmental details all help reveal the history of the property and the people who lived there before you. You’ll need to investigate rooms carefully, connect the evidence you discover, and solve environmental puzzles to open up new areas and find more fragments of the story.

The game has changing environments, too. As you uncover more of the mystery, the house can start behaving differently. Doors might suddenly open, corridors can stretch beyond what you remember, and symbols may appear in places that previously seemed completely ordinary.

On top of all that, there’s another problem beyond the building. You’re not alone in there. The entities inhabiting the property are known as Stalkers, and they’re silent, intelligent, and unpredictable. They’re not necessarily going to charge at you the second you enter a room. Instead, they can watch you, approach when they feel like it, or suddenly force you to run for your life.

What’s included in the Inherited demo?

During Steam Scream V, the free demo covers the opening portion of Inherited. So, you get an early taste of its exploration, environmental puzzles, unsettling atmosphere, and story. It serves as an introduction to the central mystery.
