A few years ago, developer Tallboys revealed Militsioner, a first-person surreal immersive sim. Now, the team has dropped a Steam demo for Militsioner during the Triple-i Initiative showcase. The game is getting published by Critical Reflex (Buckshot Roulette and No, I’m not a Human).
Militsioner is a mind-bending title where you’re an ordinary nobody who gets arrested for a crime, despite not committing any crime. So, your job is to escape, and you’ll need to get creative because there’s a Colossal Policeman keeping an eye on pretty much everything you do. And when I say colossal, I mean this bloke is the entire town’s walking security camera. You can’t exactly sneak past him and hope he’s busy checking his phone.
You can lie, sneak, cheat, steal, break into places, sell things, and trade with people. That’s the classic behaviour of someone who really, really shouldn’t be trusted with a passport! Speaking of which, you start out with a passport and a half-eaten banana.
There are multiple ways to get out. And the people living in the place are also part of the experience. You’ll run into authorities, lovers, yearners and no-ones, and nobody exactly trusts you. But the funny thing is that everyone also hates the Colossal Policeman.
Your choices and dialogue can have consequences, and the Colossal Policeman will remember your previous attempts and adjust his behaviour accordingly. If he catches you once, you’ll have to think of a different approach rather than repeatedly trying the same trick.
Get your hands on the new Militsioner demo
The demo lets you play through the entire first act, giving you a proper chunk of the game. You’ll explore a district of the nameless town, from its sewers all the way up to the rooftops, searching for secrets and possible escape routes.
The new Militsioner demo also introduces a funicular that travels up into the high mountains every hour. But boarding it might not be easy. You can try out the demo for free on Steam. The full game launches in 2027 for PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store, Xbox Series X|S, and Game Pass for PC and console.
