They say it takes a village to raise a child. This one’s not a child, but a title, and it kind of took an entire village to make it! A French-made RPG that combines traditional JRPG with French animation, Edge of Memories is dropping a demo on Steam.
The village I’m referring to includes an amazing soundtrack composed by Cédric Menendez and vocals by Emi Evans from NieR:Automata. On top of that, the game’s final theme is composed by Yasunori Mitsuda, whose credits include Chrono Trigger, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Sea of Stars.
So, Midgar Studio is a game developer based in Montpellier, that is developing the game. Nacon is the studio publishing it. Edge of Memories will launch later in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and nacongaming.com. It’s a part of the Edge of Eternity franchise.
Eline is a young nomad and itinerant Soul Whisperer who spends her life fighting back against the Corrosion. This plague doesn’t just affect humans. Animals, plants, and entire ecosystems are transformed into twisted monsters.
During her journey, Eline experiences a mysterious encounter that awakens a dark power inside her. She gains the ability to control it within her own body, something that could potentially become the key to ending the apocalypse itself.
Also, she crosses paths with Ysoris, a returning character from Edge of Eternity with unusual prosthetic limbs, who becomes her mentor. Alongside them is Kanta, the shaman prince of a lost tribe. Together, they face increasingly dangerous enemies while trying to stop the spread of the Corrosion.
When can you get your hands on the Edge of Memories demo?
The Edge of Memories demo arrives on Steam on June 15th, 2026, as part of Steam Next Fest. It starts with the opening chapter. Eline wakes up on a peaceful beach along the Estfalian Coast and soon meets Ysoris.
You get an early look at the combat system by unlocking Eline’s first combo attacks and Ysoris’ abilities. The demo also introduces the enemy weakness system and teaches players how to craft potions while resting at campsites.
You’ll face the game’s first boss. That’s also when Eline’s secret power fully reveals itself. She transforms into the Black Beast, gaining overwhelming strength for a short time. In this form, she can unleash massive damage and finish enemies with spectacular execution attacks. The creepy part is that after transforming, she remembers absolutely none of what happened.
The Edge of Memories demo includes a portion of the first chapter and offers nearly two hours of content. You can experience the opening section of the main quest, freely explore the Estfalian Coast, and take on the first boss encounter before reaching the end.
