The Guardian of Nature is a treat to the eyes. In a time where everyone is increasingly relying on AI-generated art, this game brings some of the best visuals I’ve seen in a title recently. It’s the details, such as emissive glowing lichen, which are entirely hand-drawn.

A solarpunk adventure game, The Guardian of Nature, comes from Inlusio Interactive. It apparently took them seven years to develop the game. And now that it’s finally ready, the full version is releasing on Steam on May 21st. And there’s a reason for that, too.

The Guardian of Nature is aptly releasing on Earth Day

After about a year in Early Access, the game is fully launching on Earth Day (May 21st). From Earth Day through June 5th, which is World Environment Day, the game is partnering with PlanetPlay’s Battle for the Habitats initiative. It’s an effort aimed at helping protect vulnerable ecosystems.

The developers worked very closely with scientists while making the game. So, it’s an educational title that can teach a lot to children and adults alike. Themes revolve around systemic thinking and how everything in nature is connected.

The full game is made up of three episodes in a linear order. The game follows botanist Henry, who is the Guardian of Nature. He goes on a magical journey to save both nature and the giant Tree of Life. The best part is that Henry can change size whenever he needs to. It’s a perspective-changing story of epic proportions!

Gameplay is classic point-and-click puzzles. You explore environments above and below ground, collect inventory items in your backpack, and solve solarpunk puzzles. You record all the things in the Book of Nature. The book grows as you discover “Nature Cards” scattered throughout the world, which also give hints about where to go next.

Take a look at The Guardian of Nature below. It will be available on Steam for PC from tomorrow.
