I love cutesy stuff. Titles which are charming and cute attract me. While many might feel that cute doesn’t go well with genres like hack-and-slash, I beg to differ. Just take this new co-op title, Stitchlings, for instance.
It comes as a debut title from developer Studio Woolworks, with publishing handled by USC Games. What’s more interesting is that the game started as a student project and was completed in just over a year. The game’s inspired by Castle Crashers and It Takes Two.
Stitchlings is a weird little toy-and-fabric world
A co-op hack-and-slash game, Stitchlings lets two players jump into a patchwork-looking world called The Workshop. Together, you start hacking apart toy monsters. The monsters then become parts you can stitch onto your character.
The Workshop is a miniature yet spectacularly grand patchwork world. And it’s a great sight of stitched-up dolls fighting fabric monsters. You run into tougher bosses, survival challenges, and the whole adventure revolves around reclaiming a fading world together.
Stitchlings leans really hard into co-op, too. It’s designed for same-screen play, supports two controllers, and keyboard and controller setups. And you also get support for Steam Remote Play Together.
There’s also a bunch of customisation stuff. You can swap between five unique trinkets dropped by enemies to experiment with different combat styles. There are also five collectible cosmetic items that give stat bonuses while making your Stitchling look even stranger.
Take a look at Stitchlings below, and see the cuteness for yourself!
It’s out now
So, your Stitchling slowly turns into a customised little fabric creature built from whatever you’ve defeated. Both the premise and visual design sound interesting. If you like it too, you can check it out on Steam. It’s available for free and will also release on the Epic Games store soon.
