When I say ‘cosy builder game’, what comes to your mind? Maybe something like Dorfromantik? But DevilishGames has a different, or rather, more extensive take on the term. It’s more about building things with paper, which is what their upcoming title is about. Called Cutout Village, they just dropped its demo on Steam.
DevilishGames is the Spanish indie studio behind games like Bambas!, Path to Mnemosyne, Onirike, King Lucas, and Minabo – A walk through life. They made the Cutout Village demo announcement during the Six One Indie Showcase. The demo’s sticking around until the end of the upcoming Steam Next Fest, which runs from June 15th through June 22nd, 2026.
Cutout Village is a casual indie sim and management game where you rebuild an abandoned village. You collect sheets, cut them out, fold them up, and glue them together. You unlock new service levels, decorations, buildings, and bigger population capacity for your town.
Beneath all the pretty, cosy, and charming cutouts is actually a sad story. It starts with the main characters inheriting an old family house in a village where they spent their childhood. The place is now abandoned because of rural depopulation.
So, you get into restoring the family home, reviving the village, bringing life back into it, adding services, fruit trees, and natural spaces. The game has an old-school vibe inspired by paper crafts and cutout books that were huge back in the 1960s. Take a look at the trailer below.
You can now try the Cutout Village demo on Steam
The demo includes a full level from the story mode, so you get a proper look at how the village-building works. The game has a cool feature that lets you download and assemble the buildings you create as PDF files. Check out the demo on Steam.
Cutout Village will release sometime in the second half of 2026. It’s coming to Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. Meanwhile, be sure to read our news on Perfect Tides: Station to Station.
