Tis the season of Halloween, so what better time to talk about the best witchy games to play all year round. As the colder weather draws in, we’re starting to lean towards cosier and more relaxing games for the Autumn and Winter, and these witchy titles are just what you’re looking for.

The games featured below are some of my favourites across the genre, perfect for those who love witches, cosy games, and magic. For more spooky recommendations, have a read of my Grave Seasons feature.

The Best Witchy Games to Play

REKA

  • Platforms: PC
A screenshot from REKA of the player's character walking towards Hut Hut, the chicken house where you and Baba Jaga reside amidst the forest as the sun sets in the distance.

REKA is a game I’m currently playing through, and wow, it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for when it comes to a cosy witchy game. Firstly, the art direction is absolutely stunning and incredibly immersive. The autumnal colour palettes really do set the scene.

Inspired by Slavic folklore, REKA oozes with style and magic. Nothing beats having your headphones on and listening to the game’s music as you explore the forests and villages.

Whether you’re working on side quests, exploring for chests, or decorating Hut Hut, the entire experience is charming and ultimately relaxing. It’s like sitting down with a warm cup of tea.

Oh, and how can I write this far without mentioning Baba Jaga? As your tutor, the legendary witch introduces you to the world of witchcraft, guiding you through all you need to know with a witty personality to match.

From using your crows to harvest resources to brewing potions, if you’re interested in the world of witches like me, this is the perfect game.

Wylde Flowers

  • Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, Apple Arcade
Tara, the main character of Wylde Flowers, as she rides a boat to a mystical island where a humanoid werewolf approaches the dock to greet her.

Wylde Flowers is one of those games you keep going back to, especially during the colder months. It’s such a cosy game, which is fully voice-acted, I might add.

It’s rare for titles within this genre to be voiced, which is completely fine, but Wylde Flowers proves that it does indeed add more depth to the characters and the overall world-building.

You play as Tara, a new resident on the island of Fairhaven. She’s moved in with her grandma to help out on the farm. With her being the granddaughter of a beloved member of the community, Tara is welcomed with open arms and quickly gets to know her fellow residents.

Whilst it follows a similar premise to other games in the genre, it sets itself apart with the focus on building relationships and discovering the detailed backstories of each character.

Alongside that, you’re collecting resources to build and upgrade the farm. It wouldn’t be a farming sim without mining and fishing included, too.

Now, you’re probably wondering how this game fits into the witchy category at this point. Well, once the sun sets, Tara discovers a coven, and to her surprise, her grandma is a member.

Thrown into the world of witches, Wydle Flowers follows Tara’s journey as she comes to understand her newly found magical powers.

Witchbrook

  • Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox
A promotional image of Witchbrook, showcasing a hallway of what looks to be a museum, with lots of items in display cabinets as people sit around and browse.

Okay, I know Witchbrook isn’t out yet, but I can’t write about witchy games without mentioning this title. I’ve been waiting a while for this one, but we finally have a release date of 28th January, 2027.

From everything we’ve been shown so far, Witchbrook looks like the pixelated, witchy adventure of our dreams. It’s ultimately a life simulator where you play as a witch in the seaside town of Mossport.

You study at Witchbrook College as you learn all there is to know about the world of magic, from astrology, tarot cards, alchemy, and potions. As you pass your exams, you’ll unlock more spells to use.

Even as a student, you need to make some money, so you decide to create a business selling a variety of wares at the Sunday market.

During your downtime, you can make friends, strike up a romance, go birdwatching, attend broom races, take part in cooking contests, and so much more.

Little Witch in the Woods

  • Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox
Ellie, the main character of Little Witch in the Woods, as she stands outside a wooden house in the middle of the woods. Trees surround the house in a heart-like shape, decorated with plants, pumpkins on a rock, barrels, and a table covered in cloth.

In Little Witch in the Woods, you play as Ellie, an apprentice witch. This game’s been out for a bit on PC, but it recently came out on Switch in late September. In my opinion, it’s the perfect game for handheld consoles.

She arrives at Lucerine Ortu, the land of witches, filled to the brim with new areas to explore and villagers to meet. You can go fishing, decorate your cosy house, or gather resources to brew potions.

What first grabbed my attention when I played the demo way back when was the beautiful art style; I really am a sucker for pixel games.

Wytchwood

  • Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, Android, iOS
The old witch, the character you play as in Wytchwood, as she forages in the forest, surrounded by trees, bushes, and plants. There is a trail that leads off into the distance.

Set in a world of fairy tales, Wytchwood puts you in the shoes of an old witch as you gather ingredients, brew enchantments and decide whether or not someone is a friend or foe.

The captivating art style is reminiscent of a storybook, making exploration a treat to the eyes, whether you’re outdoors in the forest or indoors at the inn.

There are monsters to defeat, puzzles to solve, and evil beings to trick with your concoctions.
