Gods of the Grid is a match-3 roguelite RPG set in a world inspired by Greek mythology. Your enemies each have their own elemental weaknesses and resistances, which remain undiscovered until you fight them.

The Puzzle of Weaknesses

Pay attention to what happens when you attack the enemy to learn what they’re weak to and what they’re strong against. It’s a puzzle that needs to be solved. 

If you choose the wrong attack, you give the enemy time to charge up a powerful special ability, becoming enraged at half HP.

Striking the weaknesses of the enemies prompts WEAK to flash on the screen. Attacking them with an element they’re resistant to deals hardly any damage, if any at all. 

Match 3, 4, 5

The board is the weapon as you move each rune; the enemy responds with their move. While Gods of the Grid is a match-3 game, if you match 4 runes, you destroy the entire column and row. 

Matching 5 runes of a singular colour gets rid of all other runes of that colour, too. You’re aiming for a Cascade, leading to the runes collapsing, offering a chain-combo chance that can be detrimental to the enemy.

Take a Break Between Battles

Throughout a run, when not in combat, you can unlock level-ups from 25 Boons, bosses that drop relics (there are 60 relics altogether), visit the Merchant, take part in various road events, accept Godsend offers, and participate in Elite battles.

Road events include shrines, altars, and all-around gambles that can make or break a run. Godsends are essentially ceremonial offers from the gods, which you can either accept or reject. 

Nine Realms of Olympus

During your run, you climb up Olympus, matching runes to deal damage with skulls and replenish HP with hearts. Runes also allow you to cast your most powerful spells and claim special relics, whilst summoning shields and collecting mana.

There are 51 spells in total, including those that freeze, burn and deplete the mana, armor and HP of your enemies. The spells you can use are determined by the runes on the grid, and there’s a unique spell for each of the demigods.

Olympus features nine realms in total, with seven demigods. Despite that, you only have one life, and if you’re defeated, the run is reset to the start.
