It looks cute, has weird dream worlds, and narrates a mysterious lore. So, obviously, it grabbed my attention! Sleep Herd is the game I’m talking about, and it comes from Lamp Katze Studio, the indie team founded by Science and Media YouTube educator Junferno.

Sleep Herd mixes resource management, combat, puzzles, and exploration inside a charming but slightly unsettling dark fantasy world. There are haunted libraries, foxes taking over mansions, bear-beaver monsters, and all kinds of crazy. The setting pulls ideas from folklore, epics, ballets, Victorian literature, and the Laurentian wilderness.

Meanwhile, the gameplay is built around the dandori concept from Pikmin. So, you’re constantly organising your time, your resources, and your team while balancing exploration, combat, and puzzles. Instead of Pikmin, though, you’re commanding adorable sheep spirits.

Sleep Herd is a 2-4 multiplayer co-op title

The story starts on a sheep farm outside a peaceful yarn town. Four souls suddenly wake up as dolls inside a bizarre world from the dreams of the shepherd’s daughter. You play as one of four characters: the willful Beep, the fashionable Bo, the dozy Kovsky, or the dutiful Tchai.

You meet Piper, a wandering puppet jester who hangs around the shallow parts of the Dreamland. Piper offers to help everyone escape, but only if you’ll help explore the abandoned and much creepier deep end of the Dreamland first.

The sheep spirits I mentioned above are friends of Piper and are your biggest resource throughout the adventure. You’ll order them to carry objects, smash obstacles, attack enemies, solve cooperative puzzles, and more.

Sleep Herd has many kinds of resources, like Light. Also, you spend plenty of time collecting Mementos. Meanwhile, plenty of Dreamland’s inhabitants would rather see you fail. Foxes leap in and steal your sheep, Owls attack from long range, and Bereavers, which are gigantic bear-beaver hybrids, can crush multiple sheep in one attack.

Visually, Sleep Herd has beautiful hand-painted artwork. Check out the trailer below and wishlist the game on Steam.
