GodsTV is both an animated series and a game, with a pilot for the former and a demo for the latter now out. The animated series was built from the ground up alongside the game. It’s basically a satirical roguelite where players are contestants in a deranged reality TV show run by alien gods.
Spud Gun Studios, the independent animation studio behind Mashed, has teamed up with Barcelona-based game developer Melbot Studios to launch GodsTV. The pilot is five minutes long and is premiering on the Mashed YouTube channel. After that, full eight-minute episodes are planned to release quarterly.
Now, those episodes will line up with major game updates. Speaking of the game, it’s a 90’s inspired action roguelite drenched in humour, fame-lust and chaos. You shoot and slice your way through fast-paced shows, farm aura, build your loadout and try to earn the Gods’ favour while climbing toward Godhood.
The Gods, known as the Gods of the Capitalypse, feed off ratings and demand blood, laughs and drama in exchange for heavenly upgrades The more Fame you build up, the stronger the powers they give you become.
And when you die or win, you head backstage to upgrade your Contenders and craft your build for the next show. There’s also an entire cast of people hanging around back there. It includes your shady AI-Gent with his shady deals, your jaded star coach and the rest of the spicy cast.
The GodsTV demo brings around 2 hours of chaotic combat and hilarious narrative
You play as a wide-eyed wannabe auditioning for the greatest TV show in the Capitalypse. You get the first 4 Show-Runs to play through and the choice to play as either Leetah or Kinni. The GodsTV demo also adds a new Backstage area, new VO talent, new Runs/Shows and a new tutorial.
