Panache Digital Games is finally putting 1666: Amsterdam into Early Access. It’s a title that mixes dark supernatural mystery, investigation, witchcraft, and historical Amsterdam. And also, a cat from 1999 plays a very important role amidst all of these.
The game is set to launch in Early Access on August 25th, 2026, on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The devs are planning console versions for later. Panache dropped the new gameplay feature, the investigation system, for the upcoming launch.
You’ll be hunting down mysterious entities called the Originals, who have been hiding among the people of Amsterdam. During the day, you investigate the city, gather information, identify the Originals, and mark them. Then night rolls around and things get considerably less normal.
1666: Amsterdam is a dark, story-led, third-person action-adventure
You play as Noa Brooklyn, known as the Collector. She was born into this role and raised by the Zaindaris, a group that passed down witchcraft through generations. Her job is to take back the power that the Originals have been abusing for centuries.
This version of Amsterdam has two completely different sides. During the day, you explore a handcrafted city and investigate people, locations and clues. At night, every facade has a gablestone, but you can’t trust everything you see.
The Originals are hiding behind human faces, so identifying them is a major part of the gameplay. Once you know who they are, you’ll eventually confront them during the Esbat, where they reveal their true forms under the moon. Then Noa gets to collect what’s owed.
Meanwhile, Aaron, the cat, is summoned from 1999 and now sees the world through the eyes of a cat. Yes. You can switch between Noa and Aaron, with the two characters having completely different playstyles. Noa has witchcraft. Aaron has four paws!
