Developer Eschatology Entertainment and publisher 4Divinity claim that their upcoming title Guns of Eschaton is going to be the world’s first soulslike FPS. Whether you agree with that label is another topic altogether. Here’s a closer look at the game, and you can decide for yourself whether that claim holds up.
So, Guns of Eschaton is set in an apocalyptic Wild West full of occult horror, false saints, monsters, and creepy mythology. It’s an apocalyptic version of the American Old South. The world has gone completely off the rails, and you’re wandering through a place filled with dust, blood, broken history, ruined settlements, impossible machines, and mythic roads.
The apocalypse is known as The Burning, where reality has been twisted by ancient forces, competing faiths, and impossible myths. The historical figures are caught somewhere between legend and damnation
The world is being built by legendary art director Viktor Antonov. If you’ve heard his name for the first time, you must know that his work includes Half-Life 2, Dishonored, Prey, Fallout 4, and Wolfenstein: The New Order.
Your character in Guns of Eschaton is not an unstoppable hero
On the contrary, you’re almost ordinary. You’re fragile, constantly outmatched, and surrounded by monsters in a dying world. Your biggest advantages are a Colt, your instincts, and the determination to somehow make it back home.
Meanwhile, in combat, every bullet matters. Every gun has its own personality, and every monster has specific weaknesses. There are more than 20 firearms inspired by the brutality, feel, and limitations of real 19th-century weapons.
Guns of Eschaton is coming to PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. You can play the entire story solo or through full co-op progression with friends. It also includes a PvP mode.
