It sure is able to deliver what it intends to. A fake Windows 95 desktop and a goth girl. Now, place them in a creepy murder mystery. Totally, a trip down memory lane. If you’ve watched 90s movies, that is. The game I’m referring to is Murder Meet Cute, developed and published by Kitico, LABORARE, and Crybaby Studios.
Murder Meet Cute is getting a Horror Game Awards showcase
The team is dropping a fresh trailer at the Horror Game Awards showcase on June 1st, 2026. They already had a showcase at the InterfaceX26 festival. The new trailer will dig more into the story and focus on Amy while she deals with some seriously bad supernatural stuff trying to ruin her life.
So, Amy is the game’s extremely done-with-everyone protagonist. A self-proclaimed tech genius and night-shift computer fixer, she’s also a professional hater of annoying customers and part-time conspiracy forum gremlin. She spends half the game mocking people online and the other half snooping through their computers looking for clues about murders.
Murder Meet Cute is an interactive fiction game with fake operating systems and weird virus picross puzzles. With equal doses of horror and dark comedy, the game has 90s cultural touchstones and multiple retro operating systems.
An art direction inspired by old FMV games with custom industrial-style music
You’re bouncing between Amy’s home PC and customer machines. Do so using old-school interfaces like DOS, Windows 95-style systems, ICQ-inspired chat apps, emails, and forums. Through them, you get a giant file tracking local disappearances and murders around town.
The puzzle mechanic is called Crypto-Nonographic technology. It’s picross/nonogram puzzles that mutate into disgusting virus monsters after you solve them. So, instead of fixing computers normally, you’re debugging horrifying, fleshy nightmare viruses.
Murder Meet Cute is coming to PC via Steam later this year. Take a look at the game below.
