Four hundred thousand Dark Elixir. Two mystery Guardians. One Revenge Tower that gets angrier the more of your base goes up in smoke. That is what Supercell shipped when the Town Hall 18 update landed on November 20, 2025.

We’ve teamed up with igitems.com to discuss how the TH18 upgrade decision has been shaped by those three things. This update is no gentle bump. TH18 adds unique hero-like defenders, lets you merge two Wizard Towers into a Super Wizard Tower that chains damage through 15 enemies, and drops a pair of new troops into the mix. Plan your upgrade order and save weeks. Wing it, and you will spend half of 2026 farming Dark Elixir for a Guardian nobody uses. This Clash of Clans Town Hall 18 guide is here to stop that.

What Town Hall 18 Actually Adds to Clash of Clans

Three new defenses rewrite this town hall level. Guardians (Smasher and Longshot) patrol your base like tiny defensive heroes, each with a special ability. The Super Wizard Tower is built by merging two max Wizard Towers and chains lightning through up to 15 units at once.

The Revenge Tower scales with destruction, spiking damage at 5, 20, and 40 buildings down, which is exactly when a three-star attempt is usually trying to close. TH17 and above unlocked the Meteor Golem, a wall-skipping tank that lobs Meteormites you can merge back into a full golem mid-raid.

The Totem Spell joined the rotation for TH16+, stunning buildings and distracting units in one drop. Allclash broke down the full TH18 patch if you want every building-level table, but the short version is that Supercell leaned hard into new toys rather than another wave of flat stat bumps.

The TH18 Upgrade Priority List at a Glance

If you read nothing else in this TH18 upgrade guide, read this table. The priority order below is the one that the testing scene and most Legend League pushers have converged on since the patch went live.

Priority Tier What to Upgrade Why It Matters
Tier S (Day One) Hero Hall, Laboratory, Clan Castle, Spell Factory Unlocks five hero levels, new troop tiers, CC capacity, and extra spell slot
Tier A (Offense) Grand Warden or Royal Champion, Meteor Golem research, Super Wizard Keeps your attack useful in CWL while your defense catches up
Tier A (Defense) Revenge Tower, Longshot Guardian, Super Wizard Tower The three buildings that actually change how TH18 plays
Tier B Multi-Gear Tower, Ricochet Cannon, Inferno Tower, Multi-Archer Tower Solid DPS gains that close the gap on rushed attackers
Tier C Smasher Guardian, Air Defenses, Hidden Tesla, Giga Bomb 4 Nice to have, but nobody three-stars you because of these
Tier F (Skip) Walls past level 17, cosmetic Fancy Shop purchases Ten million gold per wall for chip hitpoints is a trap at TH18

The TH18 Upgrade Order That Actually Wins Wars

Step 1: Hero Hall and Lab First, No Exceptions

The Hero Hall upgrade is the highest-value Hammer of Building target at TH18. It unlocks five fresh levels on every hero in one move, which is the single biggest offense spike the game hands you. The Laboratory goes next because Meteor Golem research, new spell tiers, and upgraded Super Wizards all live there. Then Clan Castle for troop and spell capacity, then Spell Factory. A maxed Hero Hall plus an active Lab keeps you competitive in Clan War League even while your defenses still look like a TH17 base wearing a TH18 hat.

Step 2: Pick One Hero and Commit

Do not try to even-level your heroes at TH18. Pick the one that anchors your attack strategy and ride it to max. Running Warden Charge variants? Grand Warden first. Root Rider smash or Queen Charge Hybrid? Royal Champion takes priority. Barbarian King is the catch-up pick if he is lagging, because a low King eats Guardian splash and throws your whole tempo off.

Step 3: Revenge Tower, Longshot, Super Wizard Tower

When defense finally gets builder time, the order is Revenge Tower, Longshot Guardian, then Super Wizard Tower. The Revenge Tower is your kill switch against greedy three-star attempts because it scales off destroyed buildings, so attackers who go wide early eat a damage spike exactly when they need heroes alive. Longshot beats Smasher on priority because range dictates everything at TH18, and a fully upgraded Longshot can lock down two lanes at once. Park the Smasher upgrade until everything else is handled.

Step 4: The Grind Tier

After that, work on Multi-Gear Tower, Ricochet Cannon, Inferno Tower, and Multi-Archer Tower in whatever order your loot situation allows. Then, Hidden Tesla, Giga Bomb level 4, and the new Air Defense tiers. Gaming On Phone’s TH18 walkthrough lines up with this order for the grind tier, and the community data backs it up.

TH18 Base Designs and Clan War League

If your village layout still looks like a TH17 teardrop with a Hero Hall pasted on, you will get three-starred on repeat. Current TH18 base designs build compartments around the Revenge Tower so it spikes during the second wave, and tuck the Longshot where it covers two air corridors at once.

Base libraries like Clash Champs publish fresh war, trophy, and legend bases every week, and the good ones are worth copying until you understand what each compartment is actually doing.

How to Skip the Grind

Taking a fresh TH18 to fully maxed is a commitment measured in months. Even with a Gold Pass running at full tilt, late-tier defenses, Guardian levels, and the last few hero pushes take real calendar time.

Returners who walked away at TH13 and want to go straight into endgame content sometimes shortcut that wait by ordering an account for Clash of Clans from a marketplace like igitems, which drops them into TH18 without six months of farm mode. It is not the right call for everyone, but for players who actually want to play the endgame rather than grind toward it, it is a legitimate way to skip the wait.

Whichever path you pick, the rule holds: upgrade in priority order, keep your offense two weeks ahead of your defense, and hammer the three buildings that define Town Hall 18. Hero Hall, Revenge Tower, Longshot Guardian. That is the whole game right now.
