Game of Thrones Winter is Coming only arrived on R2 Games a few short weeks ago, but it’s already received a huge update.
The patch makes a number of tweaks and improvements to the gameplay and interface, including increased odds of obtaining material from victories, optimised matchmaking in the Champion City Siege Event, and more.
There’s a new daily event, too. You can find it in the Benefit menu, and it allows Lords and Ladies to obtain special tokens every day.
But the star attraction of the new update is undoubtedly the Awakening system, which lets you Awaken certain commanders.
The Awaken ability is confined to a restricted set of commanders right now, but it will roll out to more commanders in due course. Once it’s available for a given commander the relevant Royal Lords and Ladies who own Golden Quality will be able to activate awakening.
Game of Thrones Winter is Coming is a multiplayer RTS based on the epochal Game of Thrones series of books and TV shows. It sees you assuming the role of Lord or Lady on the beleaguered continent of Westeros.
You’ll build your base, train your army, forge alliances, and ultimately beat a path to the Iron Throne. Or, you know, die.
Several familiar faces from the TV show appear in the game, including Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, and Jaime Lannister, and there are familiar setpieces too. If you’re a fan of the hit show, Game of Thrones Winter is Coming is the closest you can get to stepping through the screen and trying your luck in the Seven Kingdoms.
