I’m a fan of Studio Ghibli, and I know you are too. So, my obsession with their creation is not just limited to movies. I love anything (and everything) that has that Ghibli-like aesthetic or visuals. Seina: A Tale of Spirits is one such upcoming title that has just dropped its demo on Steam.
The game is set in a beautiful hand-painted spirit world inspired by traditional Japanese villages. It’s solo developer Argyro Brotsi’s debut title, who was inspired to create the game after a honeymoon trip to Japan.
You play as Mika, a young girl whose beloved cat Seina has mysteriously disappeared. Looking for it, she heads into a beautiful, overgrown world covered in moss, plants and memories of another time. Along the way, she ends up exploring a forgotten spirit realm filled with ancient ruins, misty forests, peaceful lakes, old shrines and a bunch of cute animal spirits.
As for the gameplay, you primarily just wander around and explore. You poke at things, find hidden paths, solve light environmental puzzles and help the little spirit animals with their problems. You gradually find out why Seina left and what exactly connects Mika to the forgotten world.
The Seina: A Tale of Spirits demo is now out
In the demo, you’ll follow Mika as she searches for Seina and meet some of the gentle inhabitants of the spirit realm. The adventure is single-player, and you’ll get to try out light puzzles and experience the emotional storytelling of the game.
Now, let’s talk about the visuals of the game. Hand-painted in a watercolour style, Seina is full of vibrant colours, gentle music and loads of small details. The game is inspired by Japanese aesthetics, nature and folklore, so the character and creature designs are warm and cute.
