Developer Schisma Games and Publisher 101XP are back with another narrative RPG. After the success of The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, they’ve dropped The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian. It’s set in the same universe as that of Sir Brante, but is a completely standalone story.
In this game, you’re not born at the bottom of society like Sir Brante, you’re playing as Prince Jerian. He’s the heir to the throne of the Blessed Arknian Empire and the future ruler of the entire nation. You’re incredibly powerful because of your birth, but that power is also a massive responsibility.
Every choice demands compromise, responsibility, and accepting whatever consequences come afterward. You follow Jerian throughout his entire life, starting when he’s just a child. As crown prince, he has to learn the country’s traditions and culture.
Things are already falling apart when you step into Jerian’s shoes. The Empire’s treasury is nearly empty, the estates are fighting each other over their own interests, and commoners are demanding equal rights with the nobility. Even before Jerian officially becomes Emperor, the weight of the Emperor’s sceptre is already hanging over him.
Jerian isn’t just the crown prince. He’s the Primate, the person who connects the mortal world with the divine. His family, House Tempest, serves as the guardian of the Pact, essentially a testament between the gods and the people.
Ultimately, all of Jerian’s power is supposed to serve a purpose. His destiny is to protect the world entrusted to him by both his ancestors and the gods. Your decisions determine what kind of future the New Empire ends up having, who benefits, whose suffering ends, and whose suffering begins.
The devs have kept many of the gameplay systems from Sir Brante while introducing new mechanics. Want to check it out? The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian is available on Steam.
