Mushrooms are an unsuspecting food that encourages carnage during the PvP-enabled nighttime. My Grow a Garden 2 Mushrooms Guide will tell you everything you need to know about these consumables, including their rarity, price, usage, and when the best time to deploy them is.

Let’s get into it!

Grow a Garden 2 Mushrooms Guide

Mushrooms are an edible Gear bought from the Gear shop in the central plaza. On consumption, the player gains temporary enhancements that typically help during the chaotic night cycle. The current menu of mushies includes:

Jump Mushroom

  • Rare, 1,800 C$.
  • Massively increases jump height for a short duration.

How to use: If you want to target a player who has tall crops, shielding their produce through parkour, then the Jump Mushroom helps bypass most of this strife to quicker snatch their plants and run.

Alternatively, it works in your favour if you have a tall plant that you tend not to harvest due to its sheer size and annoying parkour. Though a more stable alternative to this would be investing in the Ladder Crate.

Speed Mushroom

  • Rare, 1,500 C$.
  • Boosts Movement Speed for a short duration.

How to use: Whilst running back to your plot with stolen goods, other players, including the one you stole from, can whack you with their shovel to knock the crops from your hands and ragdoll you. If you want to avoid capture and losing it all, a speed boost will help you breeze past the pursuers.

Shrink Mushroom

  • Epic, 4,500 C$.
  • Temporarily shrinks the player.

How to use: It’s harder to target you when you’re tiny. The Shrink Mushroom makes you difficult to spot amongst the foliage of other players’ plots, giving you a better chance of taking their crops and fleeing successfully.

Supersize Mushroom

  • Epic, 4,500 C$.
  • Temporarily grows the player to a giant size.

How to use: To be honest, this Mushroom seems counter-productive as you’re far more visible, but it makes traversal and thievery a little more bold and precise.

Invisibility Mushroom

  • Legendary, 30,000 C$.
  • Makes the player invisible temporarily.

How to use: Typically, when stealing, a red outline will beacon to other players where you’re located and how many fruits you have in a stack. This Mushroom silences that ping, making you an undetectable thief. It’s well worth the price if you find a rich player to steal from.

The Night Cycle

Every few minutes, the server will be cast into a black night, which means under the veil of darkness, players can creep around and steal crops from unattended gardens. If you stay on your plot, you’re safe from targets, but if you step out of your gate to visit other gardens or the plaza in the centre, you’re at risk of thievery.

When invading or being invaded, you can collect as many crops as you want from other players, though the longer you stick around, the higher the risk of being caught. This is where the Mushrooms come in, as they can aid in stealing from others with better success.

Preventing Thieves

The Mushrooms do have some applicable features for preventing thieves, too, such as speed to catch them, but this isn’t their primary use.

Instead, you can use other Gears or your Shovel as theft prevention. The Shovel acts as a ragdoll deterrant, meaning if you whack a player carrying crops, you’ll knock them over, and they’ll drop all produce, sending it back to its home garden immediately.

Gears such as the Gnome also prevent thieves, as these devious little ornaments bite any intruders, siphoning some of their Sheckles to recoup some lost funds for their owner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is the best Mushroom?

Since they’re situational, this is a hard answer, though I do like the Invisibility Mushroom since it’s especially devious and covers more ground than the rest. With it, you can easily make back the initial investment cost of the Mushroom with a single trip to a rich player’s garden.

How do I earn Sheckles?

Growing and selling crops primarily, including crops you steal from other players successfully. Some Gears and Weathers also help enhance the value of base crops, earning you even more money.

How should I prepare for the night cycle?

The best way to prepare, regardless of whether you plan to leave or not, is to collect all fully-grown crops before nightfall. This stops players from taking crops, as there is nothing to steal, and also prevents the fully-grown crops from turning decayed, which happens if left on their stems for a long time.
