I know that most people hated this chore as a kid/teenager: cleaning and organising their room. But I was always an organised person, right from my childhood. And which is why I don’t mind (rather love) games like Momento.

So, Momento is a cosy, story-driven room decorator and life sim. It’s coming to PC, Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S this June. Silver Lining Interactive is publishing it, while the developers are Fat Alien Cat and Nomo Studio.

Momento has puzzles and point-and-click elements

You start in a childhood bedroom and decorate it however you want. But unlike most decorating games, the objects you keep or throw away here actually change the protagonist’s future. Tiny choices snowball across an entire lifetime, leading to different life paths, settings, relationships, and endings.

It’s part decorating sim, part life story, part emotional memory box. The developers say it’s an ode to the power of everyday things. First, you choose toys that connect to dreams for the future. Then, the story follows those dreams into adulthood across different themes and environments.

Momento offers stories involving heartbreak, wonder, and love woven through everything. The sentimental objects you carry along the way slowly reveal why they matter. There’s also a little bit of mystery because some objects aren’t exactly what they seem at first glance.

You can switch lights on and off, leaf through books, pet adorable animals, and poke around every corner of rooms. The game lets you interact with the environment in all sorts of little ways. There are hidden puzzles, easter eggs and unlockable rewards, too.

The game has two main ways to play. Story Mode is the more emotional, narrative-focused experience where your decisions shape the protagonist’s life. Meanwhile, Creative Mode lets you fully relax and decorate freely without worrying about consequences. Stuff you unlock in the story can also be used later in the Endless Creative Mode.

You can wishlist Momento on Steam for PC. Also, physical pre-orders for Switch and PS5 are open through the Silver Lining Direct website.
