I’ve been a huge fan of old Disney animated films, especially the ones from the 1970s through the 1990s. And that’s exactly what this upcoming title has to offer. It’s a 3D platformer called Secrets of the Burrow: Vixoria’s Quest.
Of course, there are other elements that might grab your attention. It has platforming challenges, a special combat system and enemy encounters against creatures like Gnomes. But its painterly backgrounds, expressive character animation, and hand-crafted storybook look are what caught my eye.
The title is made by FOXBOY Productions, a three-person indie team, which just showcased the game at the Paris Games Week. The demo had two playable characters, character switching, cooperative AI parkour following, and a momentum combat system they’re calling RPM combat.
By the way, the Creative Director and Founder of the studio is a published author who’s worked on picture books and short novellas. His book Secrets of the Burrow: Vixoria Wants a Friend is a companion story, detailing how Vixoria met her companion, Hector the wolf cub, before the events of the game.
Secrets of the Burrow: Vixoria’s Quest is still in active pre-alpha development
The current target is a 2027 launch for PC and consoles. The team keeps dropping new videos every now and then, giving a glimpse into the game and its development process. Here are a couple of them, take a look!
The game is single-player, but you constantly switch between two characters Vixoria and Sir Foxalot, during gameplay. Vixoria focuses more on acrobatic movement, puzzle-solving, and traversal stuff. Meanwhile, Foxalot is built around the RPM combat system.
The world is fully interconnected, with locations ranging from waterfall basins and canyon rifts to crystalline cave labyrinths and ancient ruins. Also, fluid parkour movement is what the devs are focusing on offering players.
