Would you prefer a title that has space physics, Afro-punk sci-fi, puzzle solving, couch co-op, and even an old-school comic book vibe? If your answer is a yes, then Gravity’s Edge is the title that you’ll like. The 2D action-adventure game from developer Kamau Vassall and publisher Kassle Games just dropped for PC.
Available on Steam for a discounted price of $7.99, Gravity’s Edge is about planetary defense and space travel. There’s a free demo available on Steam as well, if you want to try it before buying. The game includes achievements, companion pets, keyboard and controller support, bindable keys, and Steam Deck support.
For the game’s visual style, Vassall worked with artist Sam McCollum to give it a retro comic-book line art aesthetic. It totally suits the game’s vibes, which takes inspiration from real-world physics, but is presented in a fun way. Take a look at the game below!
Gravity’s Edge tries to be epic
You play as a young adolescent searching for his father. He travels across tiny worlds where gravity keeps him attached to the surfaces he walks on.
So, instead of normal platforming, you constantly deal with little planets and strange environments. While solving puzzles, you also fight aliens, explore cities, take quests, and uncover hidden mysteries.
The story leans hard into an Afro-Caribbean identity as well. The protagonist wears his father’s jacket with a family crest based on an Adinkra symbol.
The dev said a lot of the cultural stuff in the game just comes from what he personally knows. That includes Jamaican patois and Akan symbology mixed together with inspirations from sci-fi series like The Expanse and Firefly.
The story mode in Gravity’s Edge alone has over 300 worlds and multiple branching narrative paths. You’ll also find several ancient statues, shrine monuments, and satellite graveyards.
You’ll also stumble upon a mysterious group called the Outcasts waiting around at the edge of space. Your choices matter too, because there are seven different story endings depending on what you do.
Then there’s the separate Survival mode. You can play solo or with 2-player split-screen couch co-op, and there are friendly fire options. You survive endless enemy waves using different weapons, abilities, traps, and temporary powers while hunting down Ability Anvils.
That wraps up our scoop on Gravity’s Edge. You can also read our news on another interesting, new game, Uncle Lee’s Cookbook: Five Recipes for Disaster.
