If you like cosy story games, I’ve got a new one for you. Well, some people might brush it off as a kids’ game, but honestly, that’s kind of missing the point. I’m talking about Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth, made by Hyper Games.
I feel like, once you’re a Moomin fan, you’re always a Moomin fan. There’s just something about that world that’s so warm and charming and easy to get pulled into. By the way, Hyper Games is the same studio behind Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley and Mørkredd. They are also teaming up with iam8bit to do physical editions of Winter’s Warmth later this year.
Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth is out now on PC through Steam and Nintendo Switch for $19.99. There’s a 15% discount going on for the first two weeks. Also worth knowing, a Nintendo Switch 2 version is coming soon, and if you already own the Switch version, you’ll get that upgrade for free.
If you love Tove Jansson’s Moomin stories, especially Moominland Midwinter, you’ll like Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth
The story starts with Moomintroll waking up way too early from hibernation. Moominvalley is covered in frost, there’s the Lady of the Cold, and he’s just… alone, which is new for him.
At first, he’s just looking for someone to take care of him and maybe get rid of winter altogether. But then, it turns into a bigger journey where he has to explore, meet new characters, and actually help others who have it worse.
Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth is a third-person, top-down adventure with a big focus on story and exploration. You wander around the winter version of Moominvalley, its nearby forests and mountains, all inspired by Nordic nature.
Take a look at the game below.
See? Everything feels cosy even though it’s literally freezing. You’ll solve environmental puzzles, helping out characters through little quests, and just interacting with the world a lot.
