Type Soul Purgatory

Purgatory is a temporary location that you may end up visiting at some point.  You cannot leave at your own will, and you must win a difficult battle against your clone.

How to Get to Purgatory

You teleport to Purgatory if another player manages to defeat you before you’re able to kill an NPC within Hell. However, some players say they arrive in Purgatory after being defeated by another player twice. Once you’re in Purgatory, you have to fight your clone multiple times. Players state that the more you’re defeated, the more clones appear during the battle.

How to Leave

You cannot leave Purgatory unless you beat the battle. Or, if you’re really struggling, you can choose to wipe, which isn’t recommended. Take note that the clone performs all of the moves that you have access to. In a way, it can be easy to predict what it may do.

How to Avoid Purgatory

If you arrive in Purgatory while you’re AFKing to unlock your True Mode, you lose progress, and the AFK timer resets. This means if you plan to go fully AFK, you need to make sure you’re somewhere safe, where another player either can’t find you. Still, this doesn’t stop them from walking over and defeating you. This is the problem when PvP is enabled!

But, to prevent this loss of progress, you must ensure that you kill at least one NPC from Hell before you go AFK. Many players report that they’ve had to wait 25+ hours for this stage of the True Mode obtainment, and some have even stated it took over 30 hours for them.
