So, do pets work offline in Grow a Garden? This guide answers that question! As a bonus, I discuss which pets work well when you’re AFK, which means you do have to stay online in Grow a Garden, but you do not have to play actively.

Do Pets Work Offline in Grow a Garden?

To quickly answer the question, no, they don’t. Closing the game whilst having your pets roaming around your garden provides no benefits, as their passive abilities are not active when you’re not online.

This means that you cannot receive additional Sheckles from the Mole pet when you log back in, and the Fox or Raccoon pets do not steal from other players’ gardens even when you’re offline.

The latter makes more sense as you need to be in a public server for the Fox and Raccoon passives to activate, because when you’re playing in a private server by yourself, their abilities also do not work.

With any pet, you must be online with the game open for them to work. Of course, you can go AFK, but closing the game entirely results in no additional effects from your active pets.

Best AFK Pets

Whilst pets don’t work while you’re offline, which are the best to place in your garden if you’re online but AFK?

• Kiwi and Blood Kiwi
  • The Kiwi and Blood Kiwi pets reduce the hatching time of eggs, meaning your eggs are getting ready to hatch even when you’re not actively playing the game
• Dragonfly

  • The Red Fox steals a seed from another player every 10 minutes, so tabbing back in means you may have lots of new seeds in your inventory
• Raccoon
  • The Raccoon duplicates a crop from the garden of another player every 15 minutes, granting you a variety of new crops in your inventory when you come back from being AFK
• Mole
  • The Mole digs up Sheckles or random pieces of Gear now and then
