What are the top games to play on Itch.io right now? Well, it’s all subjective. What I like best might not be what you like when it comes to games! However, I love to try out indie titles, and I’ve got a few that I really want to showcase here and that I think you, the audience, might enjoy.

Top Games to Play on Itch.io Right Now

While we like to cover weekly updates of the latest and greatest games within each genre on Itch.io, I thought I could shake up the pace a little by highlighting some of my favourite games on the platform right now.

Crow Country

One of my favourite game genres is horror, especially the sub-genre of survival horror. Crow Country is a stylishly retro title that takes place in 1990, and to me, is an excellent homage to Silent Hill. The inspired music and sound design are reminiscent of what makes Silent Hill one of the best horror franchises of all time.

Edward Crow disappeared two years ago, which led to the Crow Country theme park being closed down suddenly. You play as Mara Forest, who takes it upon herself to visit the abandoned park to find answers behind the mysterious disappearance.

Like other survival horror games, you have a plethora of puzzles to work through and riddles to solve. Crow Country was once a thriving and exciting place to be, but now it’s filled to the brim with disturbing monsters and eerie silence.

Picking up items, finding clues, and exploring the park helps you with your investigation as you eventually work out what happened to Edward Crow.

Of Love and Eternity

This game first caught my eye due to its absolutely stunning visuals and environments. A demo is available to play right now, which covers the first main part of the game. The developer plans to release ten parts in total, and is still in development.

Upon awakening, you find out that you and your lover have been murdered. Your soul now wanders across the void, and so does that of your beloved. Two souls wandering through the void, you set out on a journey to find your betrothed. If you fail to do so, true terror awaits.

I don’t want to say much else as I feel as if it’s a game you should experience yourself. But I will say that even just walking around and exploring Of Love and Eternity is a real treat.

Fractal Sailor

Atmospheric horror is something that I find is missing in a lot of modern horror games. Forget jump scares, psychological horror that embeds fear into your mind is one of the most effective ways of creating a stand-out title.

In Fractal Sailor, you sail a hovercraft ship all by yourself. Travelling through an environment full of fractured rock, strange shapes, and utter darkness bar the light from your ship, Fractal Sailor brings about a sense of dread you can’t escape from.

Why are you here in the first place? Well, it’s your job to reactivate the stations that have since been abandoned. Despite their importance in gathering resources, there isn’t a soul around.

The foreboding silence and darkness surround you, that is, until you come across whatever is lurking within the waters of the ocean.
