Athenion: Tactical CCG is a bright and engaging card-battler with some brilliant ideas. It’s all about battling your opponent on a gridded board, using the arrows on your cards to make sure your attacks are going to hit, and learning the strengths and weaknesses of the different factions to get an upper hand.

There are six factions in the game, and each has its own different powers that change up the way you’ll need to use them if you want to win.

The Divine Grace faction focuses on using its Aura power to heal and buff your cards. Using these buffs wisely can turn your cards into super-powerful tanks that are going to be really difficult to clear from the battlefield.

Cyclone Fury, on the other hand, is all about swift attacks and moving around. Cards with Backstab deal more damage when they can’t be counter-attacked, and the chain ability triggers when you’ve played a certain amount of cards.

The key to winning with the Flame Legion faction is utilising the Berserk move. This triggers when you’ve taken damage and makes your attacks even more powerful. Look out for cards that let you hurt your own units to trigger your Berserk powers before you attack.

The Shadow Realm have a couple of tricks up their gothic sleeves. Many of their units will spawn new versions of themselves when they die, letting you clog up the board. Then there’s Dark Matter, which you can place on the board to trigger Dark Power moves.

Tidal Nether decks are all about Link and Freeze. Link moves let you connect cards through their attack arrows to power them up. Freeze, well, freezes your opponent’s cards and leaves them super vulnerable.

Lastly there’s the Planet Guardians and their powerful Lock move. This creates blocked up spaces on the board that last for a set number of turns. Your opponent can’t destroy them, but you’ll find cards you can play that’ll break the locks and gain some super strength for doing it.

Whichever faction you choose, you’re going to have to learn the ins and outs of their skills and special moves if you want to survive. If that sounds like something you’d like to do, you can grab Athenion: Tactical CCG right now from the App Store and Google Play Store.
