I Shall Name The Dead. Isn’t the name enough to intrigue you about the game? It’s a new narrative horror adventure from Brazilian writer Tiago Rech, who also created games like Teleforum, I Did Not Buy This Ticket, and Drowned Lake.
Published by DANGEN Entertainment, I Shall Name The Dead will launch on PC in early 2027. The single-player title features hand-drawn artwork by Lirio Ninotchka. He was also the art director for I Did Not Buy This Ticket.
I Shall Name The Dead follows a woman named Imaculada
She’s been touched by death in the worst possible way. She’s cursed by the Worm, a mysterious force that’s consuming her from the inside. It’s already claimed one of her eyes, but that dead eye comes with an eerie gift. She can now speak with people who have already passed away.
Her goal isn’t to save herself, though. Instead, she vows to restore the identities of the dead whose remains can no longer be laid to rest. At a lone cemetery in the middle of the Metropolis, the Nameless Dead can’t be buried.
Their bones and remains have piled up into a mass of indignity after losing their identities, leaving them trapped in limbo without graves or dignity. From the entrails of the Metropolis, Imaculada crawls toward the Necropolis.
She’s determined to uncover the forgotten names of the dead before the Worm finishes eating away at her insides. And that’s when Imaculada says, “I Shall Name The Dead.” You explore the sprawling cemetery that’s a city within the city.
In there, you meet its denizens, talk with the skulls of the dead, investigate the stories they leave behind, and discover the names they lost in life. You finally get to give them back their identities so they can be cremated and find peace. Oh, and you also admire the cemetery’s unique sepulchral art.
I Shall Name The Dead is a surreal, magical-realism horror narrative. You interact with the dead through dialogue and narrative choices. Wishlist it on Steam now.
