Cosy, crafty, and minimalist. That’s the new indie town-builder TileShire by Boss Blob, a two-person indie studio based in the Pacific Northwest. It’s about arranging little villages like you did in games such as Dorfromantik or Townscaper.
TileShire is coming to Windows and macOS through Steam, where a playtest is available right now. Boss Blob is both developing and publishing the game, and the full release is planned for later this year.
You drop tiles onto a map and see what happens when different pieces interact. You can combine trees, stone, dirt, and other basic terrain types to create new tiles, which then open up even more possibilities.
TileShire is all about experimentation
There’s no worrying about armies, resource shortages, or complicated production chains. You place tiles, discover combinations, trigger reactions, and slowly grow a settlement. Every placement earns points, and reaching score targets rewards you with packs of new cards to use during your run.
The tiles can react to each other and even spread across your shire, creating chain reactions that help the landscape evolve. The more points you earn, the more you can expand your village and explore what’s beyond the horizon.
There’s also a bit of engine-building in the game. It includes inhabitants, or meeples, who hand out quests and provide combo-boosting effects. You can populate your shire with residents that fit your preferred playstyle.
Visually, the world is shown from an isometric perspective. The colourful minimalist 3D tiles look a bit like tiny digital dioramas. It’s all soft shapes and bright colours, which is what makes the game cosy. Catch a glimpse of the game below.
TileShire is now available on Steam to wishlist.
