StitchedCliffs, an indie studio, has released a survival horror game called Tache Noire on Steam. The game is built around exploration and survival horror mechanics. The structure is non-linear, so you can explore at your own pace, go anywhere, and complete the game in any order you like.
Tache Noire drops you in a quiet town called Lucenille
It starts with a simple reunion between friends. You arrive in Lucenille for the reunion, but then something goes wrong, and your friends are nowhere to be found. So, you set out to explore the town and figure out what happened to them.
Somehow bring them back and make them understand what is going on. Tache Noire lets you explore every building and house in Lucenille, with different NPCs around the town.
Combat brings adaptive enemies. You can shoot specific parts of enemies to change their behaviour, close doors on them to slow them down, lure them into traps, and conserve ammo when possible. There are different kinds of enemies with distinct weaknesses.
There’s also a rumour and notes system to help you keep track of things in Tache Noire. If you get stuck on a puzzle, the rumour tab gives a short summary of events up to that point.
You can loot almost everything, and the loot you get depends on the equipment you already have. You can grab physics objects and stack them, crawl through vents, and remove barricades to open new paths.
The game also includes multiple choices and endings
You can have conversations with the inhabitants of the town and decide whether or not you want to help them. And you can also trade with them. Different decisions lead to different endings as well.
