ChildStory is an adventure quest game where you fight bosses in bullet hell style. The indie game, developed by Oliver Orangers, has been available on Steam for PC since January 2024. And now, it’s out across multiple consoles. That includes PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Priced at $6.99, the single-player game supports offline play. The languages available include English and Russian. The publisher bringing this adventure to PlayStation consoles is Stamina Zero. Take a look at the latest PS5 and PS4 trailer here.

What’s the story in ChildStory?

The game is set in a small town in the far north where people are preparing for the Festival of the New Star. That includes decorating streets and celebrating as part of a repeating cycle that happens month after month. Now, Sonya is at the centre of it all.

Every month, Sonya travels to a lighthouse to eat the moon and continue the cycle. A kind and curious girl, she’s searching for answers among snow, lights, and strange events happening around the town. During the game, she helps friends, makes new ones, explores hidden areas, fights spirits, and solves puzzles.

ChildStory is an isometric adventure with detailed pixel art and a cosy-looking world. It also includes combat against ancient spirits and monsters, and boss battles with old-school bullet hell fights. There are multiple characters with their own stories that you can talk to, help, and build friendships with.

Sonya is a small but resourceful adventurer who uses improvised tools and objects to survive in a cold and unfriendly world. You have to watch health points, eat food at the right time, and manage resources carefully.

There are also riddles from Nora, the grumpy witch who rolls out her moon circle every month. You get to explore different fantasy areas with creatures, characters, and side tasks. The New Star Festival also plays a big role in the setting and atmosphere.
