How to Unlock Characters in Duet Night Abyss

There is one main method of unlocking characters, though some are available via quest and event rewards.

Secret Letter Method

First, you need Secret Letter Clues.

Secret Letter Clues

To get Secret Letter Clues, you can complete a variety of tasks in the game to receive them as a reward. These tasks include achievements, daily missions and the vast majority of quests that you can pick up in Duet Night Abyss.

With Secret Letter Clues, you can interact with a Shopkeeper NPC to open the Shop window. From here, click the ‘Covert Commissions’ tab at the top to see a selection of unlockable characters, weapons, and Demon Wedges. You need 10 Secret Letter Clues to purchase 1 Secret Letter.

Nocturnal Echoes and Immersive Theatre

Another way of getting Secret Letters for the characters you want is by taking part in Immersive Theatre or Nocturnal Echoes. With Nocturnal Echoes, you have a chance of getting Secret Letters for any character in the game. However, in the Immersive Theatre, the drop rates are increased for the latest character added to Duet Night Abyss.

Covert Commissions

Now that you have Secret Letters, you can head into the Covert Commission battles. These battles grant you a chance of getting ‘Thoughts’ for the character you want, which you need 30 of in total to unlock them. You can get ‘Thoughts’ by using Secret Letters to access battles, or by purchasing them directly via the in-game shop. These ‘Thoughts’ are not always guaranteed to drop in each battle.

Unlocking the Character

Once you have 30 of the character’s ‘Thoughts’, you can head to the character selection screen to view all of the characters you currently have and those you can unlock. Scroll to the character you wish to unlock and click the ‘Reminiscence’ button to spend the corresponding ‘Thoughts’.

Events and Quests

There are also characters that you can unlock by completing specific quests and events. Some characters are given away as a reward, though sometimes you may just get Secret Letters or ‘Thoughts’ to help you work towards unlocking said character. For example:

• Truffle and Filbert
  • Complete the ‘Tutorial: Covert Commissions’ and ‘Go Geniemons!’ quests
• Lisbell
  • Complete Mystic Maze I-V to earn Lisbell’s ‘Thoughts’
• Psyche
  • Purchasable for free via the in-game shop
• Daphne
  • Complete ‘The Overlookers’ Main Story quests
