Overwatch 2 has arrived! After a brief glimpse at what the game would look like with the beta, which ran from June 28 to July 18, the official release of the game is now available to download and play on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch. Like all good sequels, many attributes and themes have carried over from the first game, including the competitive attitude that kept us all on the edge of our seats. With season one in full swing and season two quickly approaching on December 6, we thought we’d compile an Overwatch 2 tier list of all the current characters at launch to give you a head-start.
Overwatch 2 is the long-awaited sequel to its predecessor, Overwatch, which was developed by Blizzard Entertainment and Iron Galaxy and released in 2016. The game itself is based on the iconic five vs five competitive layout, a staple for competitive games made famous in shooters and MOBAs like Counter Strike and League of Legends. What set Overwatch apart from shooters like Counter Strike (and what inspired games such as Valorant) was that you played as characters, sparking charisma and charm to the game. Consequently each character has specific abilities and weapons unique to them, making it important that you know what each one does, and which is best to use.
Character Classes
There are also three different classes of characters; Tanks that draw away the heat from the rest of the team, Supports that help the team in overall areas such as health boosts, and Attack (DPS) who are the offensive aggressive type.
The game is absolutely packed with history, lore, and content making it easy to feel overwhelmed. Luckily the free to play launch of the game is a perfect opportunity for newcomers to dive in!
