With most of the year off, and an army of elves to do his bidding, it’s easy to dismiss Santa Claus as an idle grifter. But there’s no getting around the fact that his workload on Christmas Eve is utterly insane.
No mere mortal would be able to do what Santa does in that frantic, magical 24 hour period, and the last thing he needs is for anything to go wrong. Especially in 2020.
Except something has gone wrong. The presents are lost, and Santa needs to find them all before embarking on his festive rounds. It’s a good job he has you to help him.
Santa’s Xmas Adventure, from GS2 Games, is a huge, cheerful, accessible puzzler that lets you save Christmas.
Based on the classic tile puzzler format, it sees you guiding Santa through a vast number of stages by rearranging tiles. Each of these tiles contains a section of pathway, and your goal is to bring them together to create a pathway to the exit.
To make matters worse, there are gifts on some of these tiles, with three to collect in each stage. Even if you succeed in stitching a pathway together, you’ll often struggle to include all three gifts on that pathway, meaning you’ll need to revisit stages to get that all important perfect score.
And that’s just the first mode, consisting of 240 stages. Once you’ve picked up enough gifts you can play stages in Classic Mode, which dispenses with the gifts but restricts the number of moves you can make.
And after that you’ve got Moving Mode, which requires you to move tiles around while Santa is en route to the exit. There are 240 levels in each of these modes, making 720 in total. That means you’ll still be working on Santa’s Xmas Adventure when Santa has finished his rounds and gone back into hibernation.
Santa’s Xmas Adventure is available right now on Nintendo Switch.
